24-hour kennel tailors service to each pet

Since Michael Schultz assumed Kennel Club's lease in 2009 he has expanded the business with international pet trainers and a staff with 60 years of combined grooming experience.

The Kennel Club tailors individual runs for each dog with accessible exercise areas that are used throughout the day. Schultz said the use of the kennel runs versus caged boarding ensures dogs are comfortable during their stay, which is appreciated by owners.

"The dog needs room to turn and have room to have exercise," he said. "I want people to come in and really feel assured that their pets have the best care and when they come in they say, 'Wow, that was very nice.'"

Schultz said he is on-site throughout the night to ensure the dogs are safe and assist those with medical problems. Some of the employees have veterinary assistant experience and are able to identify any medical crisis if needed, Schultz said.

Air conditioned indoor suites are available for pets who will be staying for an extended period of time. The suites are decorated with made beds and TVs hung in the corners of each room.

Trainer Kim Brasch joined Schultz in 2011 and has established himself as a prominent trainer in Houston, Schultz said. As a former dog trainer for the German Army, Brasch came from Hamburg, Germany, capable of training different breeds in five different languages.

"He actually bonds with the pets very well," Schultz said. "He's able to communicate with the pet very well."

Alongside international training experience, grooming services offered at Kennel Club have distinguished the business from other pet resorts in Houston.

Groomers are on scene to accommodate requested grooming styles and offer nail care for each pet.

Schultz said the Kennel Klub is able to offer customized cuts because of the experience and professionalism his groomers offer.

"We just cater to everybody's needs," he said. "We do mohawks, we do hair dyes [and] we do toenail polish. We specialize in that because our groomers are just that good."

Schultz said he is planning an expansion in the future. Once he is able to buy the 10,000-square-foot building off Hwy. 6 in which the Kennel Klub is located, he will be able to accommodate additional suites and kennel runs with a separate training and daycare room.
