Methodist West Houston Hospital is slated to open a second medical building by May 2014 which will expand its services to more area residents and visitors.

The new 135,000-square-foot, six-story space will provide office space for several private and Methodist-affiliated physicians as well as an employee fitness center. Medical Office Building 2, which will be located at 18300 I-10, is expected to bring services offered at sister campuses in areas like Sugar Land and Willowbrook to Katy, including primary care, OB-GYN and weight management clinics.

The main hospital opened in the area about two and a half years ago, and Medical Office Building 1 on the property is almost at full capacity. Cody Hunter, director of business development and patient satisfaction at the hospital, said the long-term master plan for development is to add two more medical office buildings, construct two additional parking garages and significantly expand the main hospital facilities in the coming years, with no specific timeline set.

"We own quite a large piece of land, and there's quite amount of acreage still left," Hunter said. "We own land on other side of Park Row and immediately west for additional expansion."

Growth at the main hospital is also in progress. An expansion of the intensive care unit with the addition of nine beds is expected to be completed by the end of the year, and seven operating rooms are scheduled to be added in the near future.

"Things are moving right along," Hunter said. "We're glad to be growing here in Katy and West Houston."

The hospital is at 18500 I-10.
