The Tomball High School baseball team won the state championship for the first time in school history.

The Cougars beat Corpus Christi's Moody High School 6–1 on June 7 in the 4A division state championship game in Round Rock, Texas.

During the first inning of the game, the team's pitcher, Robert Dugger, hit a three-run home run inside the park. He was later named MVP of the game.

"We had a lot of returning seniors that were really talented," said head coach Doug Rush. "Everything just came together at the right time."

Eighteen of the team's 24 players are seniors. The championship game ended at about 9:15 p.m., and the seniors graduated at 9 a.m. the next morning, Rush said.

This was the first time the Tomball baseball team went to the state championship and the first time any sports team from Tomball High School won a state championship, Rush said. The team's overall record was 35–4.

"Everybody's still really excited," Rush said. "I think it will last for a while."
