Magnolia eatery serves homemade burgers

Nestled among trees off FM 1488 in the far western corner of Magnolia, Super Burger serves homemade hamburgers made with fresh ingredients.

"This is the best place to get a real burger that's good," said Caitlyn Switzer, a Super Burger employee. "It's the only place around here to get a burger like that. Most of our customers are regulars."

Owner Paul Yu purchased the restaurant from its previous owner in November with encouragement from friends who did not want to see Magnolia's local fast food hamburger joint close down.

Yu emphasized he has not changed any part of the food or menu.

"Everything is the same," he said. "The food is the same. The cooking is the same. We are keeping it the way people are used to."

Although the menu is the same, Yu said he did extend the operating hours based on customer feedback.

The restaurant is now open until 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The restaurant is busiest during lunchtime and on Friday and Saturday nights, he said.

"I am excited to be here," Yu said. "Business is going well."

The most popular item on the menu is the California burger, Switzer said. Loaded with mounds of fresh sliced avocado, lettuce, tomato and onions, the burger features the restaurant's special sauce, all on a sesame seed bun.

The chocolate malt is another one of the best-selling items, as well as the homemade onion rings and fried zucchini, which are light on grease.

Another customer favorite is the quarter-pound Super Burger, served with special sauce.

Switzer said her favorite burger is the quarter-pound bacon Super Burger.

"It's the best way to go," she said. "The bacon's awesome."

The restaurant also offers gyros, which are popular with customers, said JamieLynn Winders, a Super Burger employee.

The restaurant serves a soup of the day, smoothies and milkshakes.

"Everything we use is fresh," Yu said.

Super Burger offers salads, including tuna salad, chef salad and a broiled chicken salad. The menu also includes turkey and veggie burgers.

The restaurant offers sandwiches, including a BLT, turkey melt, grilled cheese, barbecue chicken breast, chicken fried steak, fish and tuna.

Super Burger has a children's menu, including a junior burger, hot dog, chicken strips and grilled cheese.

The restaurant is very low-key, decorated with Texas license plates, framed articles and a framed maroon jersey from Magnolia West High School.

There are about a dozen tables inside, including two booths, and there are three picnic tables with umbrellas on a wood deck in front of the restaurant.
