At its workshop meeting March 18, the Katy ISD Board of Trustees reviewed recommended staff changes for the 2013-14 year, which notably included adding 10 administrative positions. Partially to accommodate for the opening of Obra D. Tompkins High School and to make up for administrative cuts made in 2011, the report recommended six principal positions.
"I hear from teachers that it is really hard to stay in the profession you love when you take the joy out of it because of administrative [duties]," Board President Rebecca Fox said.
When principal positions were removed due to funding cuts years ago, she said, many of the responsibilities fell to teachers with already full plates.
If the plan is approved, it will bump KISD's staff total to more than 6,190, according to the report.
The board will vote on items discussed at the workshop meeting at its next regular meeting, 6:30 p.m. March 25 at 6301 S. Stadium Lane. For more information about the school board and its meetings, visit its website.
