The Hwy. 290 expansion project has been in the works for several years, and the time has come for the congested freeway to undergo construction in Cy–Fair. Project G—which stretches from W. Little York to FM 529—will see heavy construction in early March, while work on Project F—which stretches from FM 529 to Eldridge Parkway—will follow.
Project G was put to bid in late 2012 and awarded to Webber LLC for $110 million. The scope of the project includes the reconstruction of the corridor's main lanes and frontage roads, according to Karen Othon, public information officer with the Texas Department of Transportation.
"This includes constructing a continuous Beltway 8 frontage road at Hwy. 290 and collector-distributor lanes that will run parallel to the Hwy. 290 main lanes from W. Little York to FM 529," she said.
Project F is scheduled to be put to bid later in March with an expected cost of $62 million. The project will also reconstruct the highway's main lanes and frontage roads. Both projects G and F are expected to be complete in 2017, according to TxDOT.
