After officials from the Texas Department of Transportation determined traffic conditions on FM 2920 did not warrant removing all left turn lanes, a consultant is examining whether re-timing lights would positively affect traffic flow.

TxDOT Public Information Officer Deidrea Samuels said the engineering study could take anywhere from three to four weeks, and will hone in on lights between Pine Street and Elm Street. Although left turns will not be completely eliminated, the study could also prohibit them at certain times in the intersections.

"The traffic volume data would enable TxDOT and the City of Tomball to identify the routes and times for high-volume traffic in and around the Tomball area," said David Kauffman, director of Public Works. "Additionally, data comparisons can be made to determine the effects of completed projects and can also be a factor in planning for future land development and land use determinations."

Study results will be instrumental in determining what improvements are needed on Main Street and the downtown area, he said.
