Construction continues on a project expanding a parking lot at Main Street and Elm Street in Tomball. The city is looking to finish the project before December. It will provide roughly 90 spaces when completed.
The project is one of two parking lot additions to the downtown area included in the city's 2012-13 budget, which allotted $550,000 for the improvements. Another parking lot should be added by the end of the year behind City Hall and the Tomball Police Department and offer 35 spots.
"The parking lots were approved based on our comprehensive plan and the Access Management Study for the FM 2920 corridor where we will remove on-street parking," said Tomball City Engineer Lori Lakatos. "They are to help accessibility and provide parking when on-street spots are removed from FM 2920 in the future."
About two-thirds of the parking lot has been poured with concrete, she said, and the city hopes to complete it by the end of this week.
