With fall in full swing, many green vegetables are coming back in season and are available at area farmers markets for shoppers looking for a supermarket alternative.

Sweet Magnolia Pickins Farmers and Artisans Market has experienced a few recent changes, including a name switch from Sweet Magnolia Pickins Farmers Market, and now features both farmers and craft vendors. It operates the first and third Sunday each month at the corner of FM 1774 and FM 1488 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. near the Walgreens.

Its third year in the making, the Sweet Magnolia Pickins combined market includes fruits, vegetables, herbs and homemade barbecue sauce as well as goat milk and cheese. Handmade furniture, jewelry and other local crafters are also available.

The Tomball Farmers Market also offers a combination of farmers, craftsmen and artisans and was founded in 2008 by two mothers. Since then it has grown to host about 15 vendors from the community who sell fresh fruits and vegetables, local honey, fresh herbs and salsas. Olivero Farms offers olive oil, homemade soap and a variety of trees while crafter Timothy Windmiller provides stone jewelry.

The Tomball market meets every Saturday at South Cherry Street and West Main from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. It also features monthly visits from the Texas Extension Agency Master Gardeners who answer gardening questions and provide insight into various aspects of the hobby.
