The Magnolia United Methodist Women are welcoming the community to the first Recycle with Stylea fashion show and brunch event on Oct. 20to promote a "going green" lifestyle.

Several resale shops, including T.E.A.M., Something Special and H.I.S. Helpers, will model select outfits on the runway. The event is meant to encourage attendees to be eco-friendly by recycling clothing through patronizing resale shops.

Tickets are $5, and all proceeds will benefit UMW mission and outreach programs. The show runs from 10 a.m. to noon.

Denise DuBois, the social action coordinator for the UMW Texas Conference, will discuss the importance of being involved in the community.

"We need to be aware of the needs in our community and how to help," said Marcy Parker, president of the organization at the Magnolia United Methodist Church. "[DuBois] has practical ideas on how we can be more involved."

A representative with Keep Montgomery County Beautiful will also discuss recycling efforts in the area and give tips on how to reduce litter.

The UMW's mission and outreach program funds benefit organizations such as TOMAGWA and shelters throughout region, Parker said. However, the event is not a fundraising initiative.

"We just want people there to listen," she said.

Recycle with Style will be hosted at Magnolia United Methodist Church, 419 Commerce St., Magnolia.
