The Greater Tomball Pachyderm Club and the Tomball Republican Women's Club will host U.S. Senate runoff candidates David Dewhurst and Ted Cruz at a special candidate meet and greet July 14.

"At the polls on primary election day, many of the voters I spoke with or heard talking were discussing how hard it was for them to decide who to vote for," said Barbara Tague, president of the Tomball Republican Women's Club. "[We wanted] to help voters make informed decisions about who they want to represent them."

Dewhurst and Cruz will both be speaking at the event in addition to meeting voters on an individual basis. All other Republican runoff candidates have been invited as well.

Other confirmed guests include: Carl Pittman for Harris County Sheriff, Barry Smitherman for Railroad Commissioner (unexpired term), John Devine for Texas Supreme Court Place 4, Michael Landrum for 129th District Judge and Don Self for 152nd District Judge.

Harris County sheriff candidate Louis Guthrie, as well as Railroad Commissioner candidates Christi Craddick and Warren Chisum have expressed interest, but have not yet confirmed they can attend, Tague said.

Tague, who is also the vice president of the Pachyderm club, said she believes events like this are of the utmost importance, and is pleased that many candidates have already agreed to come.

"I want all elected officials to realize how important it is for them to stay in contact and connected to all voters," she said. "[They] should know who their constituents are. Without our votes, they would not be where they are today."

Tague said the U.S. Senate race will have a critical impact on both the state and the country. In the May election, Dewhurst received 44.6 percent of the vote to Cruz's 34.2 percent.

The meet and greet will takes place from 2–4 p.m. at the Tomball Community Center, located at 221 Market St., Tomball. Runoff elections take place July 31.
