Plans for Elementary 53 in Cy-Fair ISD are shaping up, after trustees accepted a 1.5-acre land donation April 12 from Bridgeland Development.

Several years ago, the district purchased a 14.8-acre site in Bridgeland for a future elementary school. A piece of land adjacent to the site—owned by Bridgeland— was previously planned for a daycare facility.

"It really became necessary for us to consider acquiring that tract of land to assist us with the design of the elementary school," said Roy Sprague, assistant superintendent of facilities and construction.

The donation is worth about $320,000, according to Sprague.

"It greatly enhances the final design of that school," he said.

Elementary 53 is expected to open for the 2013-14 academic year.
