Residents of The Woodlands and their children will have every opportunity to get out and enjoy the summer with the more than 140 classes, programs and summer events put on by The Woodlands Township.
Registration is now open for the dozens of programs, which are open to preschool-aged children up to adults.
Just a few of the programs offered by the township are tennis instruction, aquatic programs including swim lessons, ballroom dancing, baseball lessons, "write your own novel" classes, fishing and outdoor programs, adult fitness classes and even fencing lessons.
The township also offers adult sports leagues, including soccer, softball, basketball and tennis.
Chris Nunes, township director of parks and recreation, said the programs and classes are designed to ensure the multitude of outdoor recreation areas in The Woodlands are being utilized.
"We try to develop programs that allows the community the ability to maximize the use of our facilities," Nunes said. "We've got a beautiful palette to work with and our goal is to make sure they get used and one way to do that is to develop these programs."
Most of the programs have a registration fee, with costs being slightly more for non-township residents. Classes are typically held on a weekly basis and begin June 2.
Nunes said the most popular program each year is the "Sunny Dayz" camp, which is open to children ages 6 to 8. The four-day camp, which will be held eight times this summer, is being billed as "Passport to Fun" and will teach children about different countries around the world.
"That camp has about 100 kids per week," Nunes said.
Registration is available online at www.thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov, by phone at 281-210-3950, or in person at The Woodlands Township Recreation Center at 5310 Research Forest Drive.
