Work began last October to widen a portion of Skinner Road from Spring Cypress to Huffmeister Road. When complete, the existing two-lane asphalt roadway and roadside ditches will be replaced by a four-lane concrete boulevard and a new underground storm sewer system, said Randy Schilhab, Precinct 3 manager of engineering.

"The proposed raised median will significantly increase safety by reducing accident potential," he said. "The possibility of a head-on collision is reduced by having the raised median physically separate traffic travelling in opposing directions."

In addition, the project involves widening the bridge over Dry Creek and a new traffic light at the intersection of Huffmeister and Skinner roads.

The project will cost about $10 million, which includes the price of construction, engineering fees and right-of-way acquisition. The project should be complete by this summer.
