Joe Hai Duong and Chris Irving are combining their love for food and golf to open Rooster's–a restaurant and golf driving range– this spring.
The new business, located on Cypresswood Drive, previously served as a golf driving range and soccer field for residents of Fairfield, until Irving turned it into the Golf Center at Fairfield.
"This is a gorgeous piece of property that just hasn't been utilized," he said.
Irving heard about Duong's success as owner of The Shack, another Cypress restaurant, and met with him to discuss the potential for a new project.
"We both had this vision to bring quality food to the Fairfield area," Irving said.
Duong plans to serve items such as hamburgers, steak, pork chops and full entrees. Although the facility features a full bar, Rooster's will be food-driven, Duong said.
"You can go anywhere to get a Jack and Coke, but if you come to our place, you'll get good food," Duong said. "That's what makes us different."
Rooster's has indoor seating near the bar with several televisions, along with patio tables that overlook the driving range. In addition, plans are in the works for a sand pit and an outdoor volleyball area.
"Cypress is a growing area with a lot of families, so we wanted to be the neighborhood place where people can hang out," Duong said. "It's very relaxed and family oriented like The Shack, but it's different from your corporate restaurant around the area."
The owner's also plan to host events at Rooster's such as live music and crawfish boils.
"This will be a combination of great food and a place for people to come and roost," Irving said.
