More than 1,000 students from all grade levels are expected to present their creations at the third annual Cy-Fair ISD Technology Festival Thursday, Jan. 19.

"There's just a buzz that night, and you can see how excited the kids are," said Amy Kainer, CFISD instructional technology specialist. "When they share their products, you can just see their pride; it's developing that ownership and those communication skills, and they're just thrilled."

In the main arena, students will be divided into booths for each campus, with about 20 presentations per school. Those students who created presentations on SMART boards will be set up in the conference center area.

Several categories of projects will be on display, such as robotics; web and multimedia; computer science; industrial technology; graphic arts; and more.

Students in video technology classes at one high school are bringing in a green screen to demonstrate how it works. Additionally, the festival will feature two live, interactive videoconference sessions. At 5:30 p.m., guests and students will connect with the district's Science Resource Center for a lesson on animals, and at 6:30 p.m. a session hosted by NASA will feature information on robotics.

"We're offering that because we want to spotlight how we use video conferencing in our classrooms," Kainer said.

The event lasts from 5:30–7:30 p.m. at the Berry Center.
