The Magnolia City Council will hold a public hearing tonight at 6:30 p.m. regarding the proposed annexation of five pieces of land into Magnolia.

The annexation was approved by the council Dec. 13. The hearing is meant to inform people of the details of the plan and give them a chance to speak out, said Magnolia City Administrator Paul Mendes.

"We've talked to a lot of people who are affected by the annexation," Mendes said. "This is their opportunity to come in and get more information, to have their questions answered and their concerns put to rest." The regular monthly council meeting will take place after the hearing.

The land being annexed includes five areas contiguous to city limits. The largest piece of land the city is looking to annex extends from the Magnolia Church of Christ at 823 Magnolia Blvd. to Friendship Lane along FM 1774 .

The public hearing tonight is one of two that are required to take place before the annexation is finalized. The second is scheduled for Jan. 24, at 6:30 p.m. Following both hearings, the council will consider any residents' concerns and move forward with the process, Mendes said.
