Montgomery County Precinct 4 Commissioner Matt Gray's Office is hosting a public meeting Dec. 11 for residents to learn about flood mitigation efforts in the area.

What residents should know

According to Precinct 4’s website, the meeting will cover the Montgomery County Precinct 4 Flood Mitigation Grant Plan, which:
  • Is funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Flood Mitigation Assistance Grant Program
  • Will establish a long-term strategy for flood mitigation in Precinct 4
  • Will identify specific project areas for future grant funding
The public meeting will take place from 5-6:30 p.m. Dec. 11 at The Atrium Center, located at 21575 Hwy. 59, New Caney.

The specifics

Per the website, the plan evaluates 15 neighborhoods where drainage issues and historical flood losses have been documented:
  • Deer Trail Two (Sections 02 & 04)
  • Golden Trails
  • Heritage Oaks
  • Lake Chateau Woods (Section 01)
  • Oak Lane Acres
  • Oakley
  • River Club Estates
  • Shadowland Retreat
  • Summer Hills
  • Timberlane Acres (Section 07)
  • Virginia Estates
  • Whispering Pines
  • White Oak Plantation
  • Woodway Forest
While the study focuses on these neighborhoods, officials noted Precinct 4 is aware of drainage issues and flooding that have occurred in other areas.

Looking ahead

After Precinct 4 receives feedback on the Flood Mitigation Grant Plan, precinct officials will finalize the plan and apply for additional FEMA funding for priority projects, according to Precinct 4’s website. The projects are slated to be built in phases over the next 20 years.
