Montgomery County Commissioners Court unanimously approved a $3.1 million drainage improvement project in the Porter area on Feb. 25.

What you need to know

According to officials with Precinct 4 Commissioner Matt Gray's Office, the project looks to improve drainage throughout the Cumberland subdivision in Porter by:
  • Upgrading storm drain inlets
  • Increasing storm sewer drain piping
  • Expanding ditch outfall capacity
The funding from the project is coming from a grant with the Texas Department of Emergency Management, which will cover $2.3 million of the cost of the project. The remaining $775,457 will be funded through the Precinct 4 Commissioner's budget.

Quote of note

"The existing drainage infrastructure does not meet current design criteria and the area experiences frequent drainage issues and flooding of residential structures," the application from the Precinct 4 office reads.

Also on the agenda

Under the Feb. 25 consent agenda, commissioners also approved an advanced funding agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation to construct a number of ramp improvements along the Grand Parkway between Valley Ranch Parkway and Hwy. 59. There is no dedicated funding at this time for the project.
