The details
In a Jan. 28 post on the city’s Facebook page, officials said the survey will seek input on the current state of housing and neighborhoods, transportation, utilities infrastructure, parks and recreation, and other factors affecting the city.
Officials noted survey responses will be used to help draft the initiatives and strategies that would guide city planning over the next 20 years.
The survey, which can be found here, will be available until March 21.
A closer look
Roman Forest officials said the comprehensive plan is necessary because the city does not currently have any formal planning and zoning regulations.
While non-binding, officials said the comprehensive plan will provide a framework for managing growth and guiding decision making as the city grows.
Officials noted several benefits associated with forming a comprehensive plan, including:
- Providing a strategic vision for growth
- Offering guidance for land use and development
- Setting goals for economic development
- Providing protective measures for natural resources
- Enhancing grant eligibility
After reviewing data collected from the survey, officials said the city will release a report highlighting the current state of infrastructure, traffic, land use, community character, parks and recreation, and ordinances governing the city.
Following the release of the report, officials said community members would then be able provide feedback on specific initiatives and strategies they would like to see included in the comprehensive plan.
