Community Impact analyzed data from the TEA to learn how many students were enrolled at public school districts for the 2024-25 school year compared to the 2020-21 school year five years ago. According to data for 28 Greater Houston-area school districts, the districts with the highest enrollments in 2020-21 and in 2024-25 were Houston, Cy-Fair and Katy ISDs.
However, the Greater Houston-area school districts with the most enrollment gains from over the last five school years—from 2020-25—are:
- Katy ISD with 11,935 students gained
- Lamar CISD with 10,267 students gained
- Conroe ISD with 8,351 students gained
- Houston ISD with 20,216 students lost
- Aldine ISD with 6,883 students lost
- Pasadena ISD with 4,123 students lost
When looking at enrollment changes as a percentage, some different school districts emerged for the largest student enrollment gains and losses.
The districts with the highest percentage of students gained over the last five years—from 2020-25—are:
- Splendora ISD with 36.4% enrollment growth
- Lamar CISD with 28.1% enrollment growth
- Tomball ISD with 22.8% enrollment growth
- Aldine ISD with 10.9% enrollment decline
- Houston ISD with 10.3% enrollment decline
- Pasadena ISD with 8.2% enrollment decline
For Region 4—which covers much of the central Greater Houston area—and Region 6—which covers districts between north Houston and Huntsville—student enrollment grew 2.4% and 9.7%, respectively, according to TEA data.
Of the 10 Greater Houston-area school districts that saw the most enrollment growth, as a percentage of enrollment, seven of these school districts are located in the northern portion of the region, according to TEA data.
