School districts in the northern Greater Houston area saw the top student enrollment growth—when comparing enrollment changes as a percentage—over the last five years, according to Texas Education Agency data released March 14.

Community Impact analyzed data from the TEA to learn how many students were enrolled at public school districts for the 2024-25 school year compared to the 2020-21 school year five years ago. According to data for 28 Greater Houston-area school districts, the districts with the highest enrollments in 2020-21 and in 2024-25 were Houston, Cy-Fair and Katy ISDs.

However, the Greater Houston-area school districts with the most enrollment gains from over the last five school years—from 2020-25—are:
  • Katy ISD with 11,935 students gained
  • Lamar CISD with 10,267 students gained
  • Conroe ISD with 8,351 students gained

When looking at enrollment changes as a percentage, some different school districts emerged for the largest student enrollment gains and losses.


The districts with the highest percentage of students gained over the last five years—from 2020-25—are:
  • Splendora ISD with 36.4% enrollment growth
  • Lamar CISD with 28.1% enrollment growth
  • Tomball ISD with 22.8% enrollment growth
The districts with the largest percentage of enrollment loss over the last five years—from 2020-25—are:
  • Aldine ISD with 10.9% enrollment decline
  • Houston ISD with 10.3% enrollment decline
  • Pasadena ISD with 8.2% enrollment decline

For Region 4—which covers much of the central Greater Houston area—and Region 6—which covers districts between north Houston and Huntsville—student enrollment grew 2.4% and 9.7%, respectively, according to TEA data.

Of the 10 Greater Houston-area school districts that saw the most enrollment growth, as a percentage of enrollment, seven of these school districts are located in the northern portion of the region, according to TEA data.
