Splendora ISD trustees named a lone finalist for the district’s superintendent position after conducting a roughly two-month search process.

The details

During the board’s Feb. 5 meeting, trustees named Dustin Bromley as the lone finalist to take over for outgoing Superintendent Jeffrey Burke, who announced he was retiring from the district last year.

Bromley, who began his career in education as a teacher and football coach with Galena Park ISD in 2009, is currently serving as the Deputy Superintendent of Administration and Support Services at La Porte ISD.

SISD board president Allen Wells touted the board’s pick in a Feb. 6 news release.

“After an extensive search and a thorough review of candidates, we are confident that Dr. Bromley is the right leader to continue guiding our district toward excellence,” Wells said in the news release.

Trustees will vote to officially appoint Bromley as the district’s superintendent at the board’s Feb. 26 meeting.

A closer look

Trustees’ search for a new superintendent is coming as officials plan for significant growth in the district over the next 10 years.

According to a spring 2024 report by demographic firm Population and Survey Analysts, the district’s student population is expected to grow from roughly 5,300 students in the 2024-25 school year to roughly 14,000 students in the 2033-34 school year.

Burke, who has served as superintendent since January 2017, said he believes the district is in a good position to handle the expected growth.

“I wanted to leave at a time when the district was in great shape, great things are happening and we're moving forward,” Burke said during a Feb. 5 Greater East Montgomery County Chamber luncheon. “I think we're definitely on the rise.”

To address growth, voters within SISD approved a $201 million bond referendum in November 2022 that included:
  • An expansion for Splendora High School
  • A new junior high school planned to open in August
  • Replacement campuses for Greenleaf and Peach Creek elementary schools
Voters will have an opportunity to vote for a $150 million bond election in May that would include:
  • An additional junior high school
  • The first phase of a districtwide support services facility
  • Several expansions to Splendora High School
  • The first phase of a Livestock Facility and Show Arena

If approved at the board’s Feb. 26 meeting, Bromley will begin his role as the district’s new superintendent on March 10.
