New Caney ISD’s board of trustees unanimously voted Jan. 23 to allow district administrators to negotiate a potential 17-acre land purchase, which could be used as a future school site.

What we know

A cost for the 17-acre tract of land has not yet been determined, according to a Jan. 24 email from Scott Powers, the district's executive director of public relations. However, Powers said the potential land purchase:
  • Could one day be the site of a NCISD elementary school
  • Is located in the Porters Mill subdivision along Gene Campbell Road
  • Would be funded by NCISD’s $695 million bond package, which was approved by voters in May 2023
Remember this?

Roughly 60% of voters showed their support for both NCISD bond propositions on the May 6, 2023 ballot, providing $634 million for district facilities and $61 million for extracurricular program upgrades.

As previously reported by Community Impact, the bond package includes plans to add:
  • Elementary School No. 12—a $44 million campus in The Highlands
  • Elementary School No. 13—a $50 million campus in the northeast section of the district
  • Middle schools No. 5 and 6, which would each cost $108 million and house 1,100 students, and be built in the northwestern and northeastern portions of the district, respectively
