IDEA Spears and IDEA Hardy, two charter schools under the IDEA Public Schools system, will begin construction on Nov. 12 in preparation for the 2020-21 school year, according to a press release.

The charter school will host a groundbreaking ceremony for the new campuses from 10-11 a.m. at the IDEA Hardy location, at 1930 Little York Road, Houston. For information regarding the ceremony, contact Jennifer Flores at 210-551-9253.

The IDEA Spears campus will be located at 2010 Spears Road, Houston. The two Houston campuses will each have 450 students in kindergarten, first, second and sixth grades. Each following year, the schools will implement another grade level until becoming a full-scale K-12 campus by 2027.

IDEA Spears and IDEA Hardy are currently taking enrollment applications for the 2020-21 academic year. According to Flores, the schools select students based on a lottery system, and enrollment decisions will be released in early February 2020.

The two charter schools are the first IDEA campuses to be established in the Houston area, according to the press release. Founded in the Rio Grande Valley in 2000, IDEA Public Schools operate in Austin, San Antonio, El Paso, Tarrant County and Southern Louisiana. www.ideapublicschools.org.
