It was her beautician's hand injury she had suffered from decades of hairstyling that prompted the owner of C&C Wellness, Teresa Cody, to try a procedure to help her.

Cody spent over 30 years in the dental industry, where platelet rich plasma, or PRP, therapy is used to aid in bone grafting and dental implants.

PRP, as Cody describes in her book titled "You Healing You," is a procedure that uses injections of a patient’s own platelets and plasma. She said the procedure can be used for the repair of injured tendons, ligaments, muscles and joints.

Cody gave her hairdresser a PRP shot in her hand to help with knotting and pain. The hand was so strained that she could not even touch her pinky to her thumb, Cody said. They were both surprised at how quick and effective the procedure was, she said.

“She asked me, ‘How long do you think before I see anything?’ And I said [maybe] six to eight weeks,” Cody said. “In dentistry, we put the plasma in, and we don't touch it again for three months. So she said, ‘Okay, I'll send you pictures.’ The next day, she texted me [a picture of her closed fist].”

What happened next?

In what she called a “series of synchronicities,” the tenant of a med spa Cody owns vacated her lease a mere two weeks after giving the beautician the shot in her hand, which prompted her to take over the space and start C&C Wellness in 2019.

Cody said the transition from dentistry to medical aesthetics was easy.

“The face and head and neck, that's a dentist's specialty. That's what we know,” Cody said. “For most of my career I was working inside the black box, and now I'm working outside the black box. It's much better.”

What to expect

Cody learned to use PRP therapy for vampire facials, a microneedling treatment using platelet-rich plasma to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin.

C&C Wellness offers PRP injections in other areas in need of healing, Cody said.

“All we're doing is taking all of those healing directors, those growth factors and concentrating them in an area,” she said. “They are there anyway.”

Additionally, the wellness center offers facial fillers and Botox treatments from facial slimming, vitamin injections, and massage therapy services.

“It's been fun, I like learning new things,” Cody said. “You know, some people never want to change. I'm always looking for different things.”
