What's happening?
As previously reported by Community Impact, FM 1960 has been under construction since 2021 for a two-part project to widen the roadway between Business FM 1960 and the McKay Bridge at Lake Houston.
Per the release, the three newly opened signalized intersections include:
- FM 1960 at Atascocita Road
- FM 1960 at West Lake Houston Parkway
- FM 1960 at Farmingham Road
"TxDOT appreciates the public's patience and reminds motorists to drive with caution through work zones and to be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment," the release states. "Area residents should exercise caution if driving, walking or biking near any construction activity."
Some context
Upon completion, the two-part project will widen FM 1960 from a four-lane asphalt roadway to a six-lane divided concrete roadway with a raised median, curbs and gutters, channelized left-turn lanes and five-foot sidewalks on both sides of the roadway.
Per TxDOT officials, Segment A—a $58.2 million project—runs from Business FM 1960 to east of Twigsworth Lane, while Segment B—a $70 million project—continues to the western approach of the McKay Bridge at Lake Houston.
Segment A construction is expected to wrap up by the end of February, while Segment B work is expected to be complete by Christmas. Both projects are funded by TxDOT.
