The project
Construction began in 2021 on a two-part project that will widen FM 1960 from a four-lane asphalt roadway to a six-lane divided concrete roadway with:
- Raised median
- Curb and gutter
- Channelized left-turn lanes
- A five-foot sidewalk on both sides of the roadway
Both projects are funded by the Texas Department of Transportation.
The update
For Segment A, construction of the remaining concrete pavement that is located east of Business FM 1960 and west of Timber Forest Drive is underway, said Bambi Hall, public information officer for TxDOT's Houston District, via email Feb. 5. Signal construction is also underway at all signalized intersections and initial project cleanup and Americans with Disabilities Act/accessibility improvements are underway between Timber Forest Drive and west of Twigsworth Lane. Hall added ADA/accessibility improvements are expected to begin soon between Business FM 1960 and west of Timber Forest Drive.
For Segment B, Hall said remaining work includes final project cleanup, ADA/accessibility improvements, signage, pavement markings, intelligent traffic systems and all final inspections. She added three traffic signal systems still need to be installed at the intersections of FM 1960 and Atascocita Road, West Lake Houston Parkway and Farmingham Road.

"Work on final signage and pavement markings is scheduled to take place in the very near future," Hall said. "TxDOT and the project contractor remain committed to completing both projects at the earliest date possible."
