On July 9, the Texas Department of Transportation awarded a construction bid to Angel Brothers to complete Phase 1 of a project to expand the FM 1960 East corridor from four to six lanes and add a raised median.

Phase 1 includes the road between Business FM 1960 to east of Twigsworth Lane. TxDOT Public Information Officer Danny Perez said utility work will begin in December.

Phase 2, which will bid this fall, will expand the road from Twigsworth Lane to just west of the San Jacinto bridge and build an overpass over West Lake Houston Parkway. Utility work on Phase 2 will begin in early 2021, Perez said.

Timeline: Summer 2021-2023 (Phase 1), mid 2021-2024(Phase 2)

Cost: $63 million (Phase 1), TBD (Phase 2)
