Transportation Updates

1. Woodland Hills Drive extension

Construction on Phase 1 of the extension of Woodlands Hills Drive began in October. The road will be widened from two lanes to four between Beltway 8 and Ridge Creek Elementary School. During Phase 2, a new roadway will be constructed between Eagle Ridge Elementary and Woodland Path Drive.

2. West Lake Houston Parkway/Will Clayton Parkway corridor improvements

Construction began in September on projects  around West Lake Houston Parkway. Fiber-optic cables will be installed to improve signal operations along Will Clayton Parkway between Atascocita Road and West Lake Houston Parkway.  A second left-turn lane will be added for northbound traffic to turn westbound onto FM 1960 from West Lake Houston Parkway.  Also a new traffic signal will be constructed at the intersection of June Forest Drive and Will Clayton Parkway.

3. Hamblen Road expansion

Harris County and the city of Houston are studying the feasibility of expanding Hamblen Road from two to four lanes between Loop 494 and Trail Tree Lane. The project will enter the study phase when the Houston City Council and Harris County Commissioners Court approve an interagency agreement outlining responsibilities during the project.

4. West Lake Houston Parkway pedestrian tunnels

Construction concluded in November on a pedestrian tunnel on West Lake Houston Parkway near the new Royal Brook subdivision. Construction on the tunnel has caused northbound lanes on West Lake Houston Parkway between Sycamore Springs Drive and Appalachian Trail to close.
