Tachus, a high-speed, 100% fiber-optic internet provider, is expanding its market in Montgomery County to the city of Porter, officials announced in a March 22 news release.

The internet provider is available or building infrastructure in Atascocita, Conroe, Kingwood, Oak Ridge North, Magnolia and The Woodlands. Chelsea Baker, Tachus' director of marketing, said services should be available in Porter later this year.

"Each area is a little different when it comes to construction timelines, but residents in Porter should expect to be connected to blazing-fast internet this summer or sooner," Baker said in an emailed statement.

In the last three years, Tachus has signed up more than 15,000 local subscribers for its internet services as the business continues to expand in Harris and Montgomery counties. Additionally, the company’s 700-mile fiber-optic network has reached more than 50,000 households.

Tachus officials noted the business differs from many other internet providers because it uses 100% fiber-optic cables, which they said will not degrade over time. Officials also said the network's infrastructure is built entirely underground, giving it added protection.
