With the Nov. 6 election behind us, a number of new and returning local, state and national officials will soon assume or continue their roles. Newly elected officials in Harris and Montgomery counties will take office Jan. 1, according to representatives with the Montgomery County Elections Office and Harris County Clerk’s Office. Harris and Montgomery counties will welcome new county judges Lina Hidalgo and Mark Keough, respectively. In other county races, Democrat Adrian Garcia won the seat for Harris County Precinct 2 commissioner over incumbent Republican Jack Morman, while Republican Jack Cagle won his bid for re-election as Harris County Precinct 4 commissioner. At the state level, legislators-elect, such as Rep. Dan Huberty, will take office Jan. 8, the first day of the 86th legislative session. For those elected to the U.S. Congress, including new Rep. Dan Crenshaw, the 116th Congress will convene Jan. 3, on which day members-elect will be sworn in.
