The Lake Houston area’s Hispanic population grew by nearly 20% over five years, rising from 89,447 residents who identified as Hispanic in 2018 to 107,236 in 2023, according to U.S. Census Bureau data.

The overview

On Dec. 12, the U.S. Census Bureau released new five-year data for 2023 as part of its American Community Survey.

The new data represents a five-year estimate of the population across the country from 2019 to 2023, according to the bureau website. This data compares with the 2018 survey results, which studied the country from 2014 to 2018.

The following ZIP codes make up Community Impact's Lake Houston coverage area:
  • 77044, which contains the southern end of Atascocita
  • 77338, which contains most of Humble
  • 77339, which contains the western portion of Kingwood
  • 77345, which contains the eastern portion of Kingwood
  • 77346, which contains most of Atascocita
  • 77396, which include the southern portion of Humble
A closer look


While the number of residents identifying as Hispanic rose in each Lake Houston-area ZIP code from 2018 to 2023, some areas saw larger shifts than others.

According to bureau data, the number of residents identifying as Hispanic:
  • Rose from 20,541 in 2018 to 24,747 in 2023 in ZIP code 77044
  • Rose from 16,512 to 19,582 in 77338
  • Rose from 8,449 to 10,542 in 77339
  • Rose from 2,939 to 3,896 in 77345
  • Rose from 17,466 to 21,439 in 77346
  • Rose from 23,540 to 27,030 in 77396
While 77044 saw the biggest population boost, the percentage of individuals identifying as Hispanic decreased over that same time span, falling from 44.8% in 2018 to 44.4% in 2023, bureau data shows.

Outside of the 77044 ZIP code, each Lake Houston-area ZIP code saw increases in the percentage of individuals identifying as Hispanic.
ZIP code 77396 saw the largest change in the percentage of individuals identifying as Hispanic, rising from 40.7% in 2018 to 45.9% in 2023, according to bureau data. Meanwhile, 77345 saw a similar demographic shift, with the percentage of individuals identifying as Hispanic rising from 10.2% in 2018 to 14.1% in 2023.
