Five candidates are running for Houston City Council District B in the upcoming Nov. 7 election.

Candidates include incumbent Tarsha Jackson and challengers Alma Banks-Brown, Koffey Smith El-Bey, Kendra London and Tyrone Willis.

Candidates were asked to keep responses under 50 words, answer the questions provided and avoid attacking opponents. Answers may have been edited or cut to adhere to those guidelines, or for style and clarity.

The most important issue facing District B is public trust and I would address it by having regular town hall meetings to hear the concerns and suggestions from the people of District B and work with them to the point where the people know I'm not just hearing them, but I'm listening to them ...

What is the most important issue facing District B, and how would you address it?



Crime is a major concern for District B residents and I will work hard to help lower Houston's crime rate by working with the law enforcement community, including all of the law enforcement agencies. Another major issue is health care and I will work hard in helping those who need affordable and quality health care.



What makes you the best candidate for the job?



My passion and love for my community is what makes me best to serve the citizens of District B. [I am] a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University ... where [my] major was political science.
