Humble ISD’s board of trustees could see a major shakeup this year with four of the board’s seven seats up for election on May 3.

The details

Trustees approved an order calling for the election during the board’s Jan. 14 meeting. According to the order, elections will be held for the following positions May 3:
  • Position 1, currently held by Robert Sitton
  • Position 3, currently held by Chris Parker
  • Position 4, currently held by Ken Kirchhofer
  • Position 5, currently held by Martina Lemond Dixon
While Kirchhofer has already filed to run for re-election, neither Parker nor Lemond Dixon have indicated whether they will seek re-election in May. As of Jan. 15, four additional candidates have filed to run for a seat on the board, including:
  • Oscar Silva, who is running for Position 1
  • Natalie Carter, who said she is still considering which position she will pursue
  • Scott Ford, who is running for Position 5
While Gracie de Leon also filed to run in the election, she could not be reached for comment as of press time to determine which position she will run for in the election.

A closer look

The election will result in at least one new face on the board following Sitton’s announcement that he would not be seeking re-election. Sitton, who was first elected in 2011, said he was especially appreciative of this year's School Board Appreciation Month, which is held in January.

“This is my 14th School Board Appreciation Month, and this will be my last School Board Appreciation Month sitting here,” Sitton said. “Thank you all. It really means so much.”

While Sitton and Lemond Dixon have already won re-election bids to the board in previous elections, Parker and Kirchhofer will be running to defend their seats for the first time. Both Parker and Kirchhofer were first elected to the board in 2021, while Lemond Dixon was initially elected in 2017.
