A mural inspired by student artwork will debut at Kingwood High School on May 13.

A closer look

Art by KHS students Brielyn Dreyling and Malik Fanning served as the inspiration for muralist Tara Bradley, according to a May 9 email from Humble ISD officials. The KHS mural is one of 11 created at Greater Houston-area schools by The 2024 College Football Playoff National Championship Host Committee.

The mural depicts a mustang—the KHS mascot—in a forest an features nods to the school’s history, according to district officials. The project was funded by the Harris County-Houston Sports Authority, the Houston Host Committee, the College Football Playoff Foundation and Good Reason Houston.

The specifics


A May 13 mural dedication ceremony will begin at 5 p.m. at KHS in the hallway outside of the natatorium. According to district officials, the event will feature:
  • A “special shoe presentation” by organization Houston Loves Teachers
  • Performances or appearances from the KHS’ drum line, Fillies dance team, cheerleaders and football team members
According to district officials, event attendees can:
  • Enter through the new Athletic Commons entrance, which is located to the left of the new third gym
  • Park in the student lot near the entrance
