Humble ISD officials announced the selection of Dawn Peter as the first principal of Lake Houston Middle School in an April 24 news release.

The overview

Lake Houston Middle School, which is scheduled to open before the start of the 2025-26 school year, will be located on West Lake Houston Parkway and Timber Forest Drive near Centennial Elementary School in Atascocita. The new middle school was included in a roughly $775 million bond package approved by voters in May 2022.

HISD officials said the roughly 213,000-square-foot, three-story campus is expected to cost about $80.8 million and is designed to house around 1,100 students. District officials held a groundbreaking ceremony April 22 to mark the commencement of construction on the campus.

Peter, who currently serves as the assistant principal of Riverwood Middle School, said she was excited to take on the role at the new campus.

“As a campus principal, I will create a warm and positive environment where students will know they are loved, staff will feel encouraged and supported, and parents will feel welcome to join our community,” Peter said in a statement. “Together, we will teach and guide our students and pursue our own learning.”

Peter has served in her current role at Riverwood Middle School since 2021 and boasts 18 years of experience in education, including nine years at HISD.

What’s next

The new middle school will serve students residing in neighborhoods currently zoned to Autumn Ridge and West Lake middle schools, with the potential to take on some students currently zoned to attend Woodcreek Middle School, according to the news release. Officials noted once attendance boundaries have been approved, families residing in the new campus’s boundaries will be invited to help select the school’s mascot.
