According to the district’s webpage, breakfast will be provided from 8:15-9 a.m. and lunch will be available from 12:15-1 p.m. Monday-Thursday at Oakley Elementary School, located at 22320 Loop 494, New Caney.
Scott Powers, the district's executive director of public relations, noted children do not be enrolled at a district campus to be eligible for summer meals. Additionally, families do not have to apply, register or provide identification to participate in the summer meal program.
According to Powers, the meals are being provided at no cost to NCISD through the Summer Food Service Program—a U.S. Department of Agriculture nutrition program administered by the Texas Department of Agriculture.
According to Texas Education Agency data, 11,488 students, or 67.19%, of NCISD's student population were considered economically disadvantaged in the 2021-22 school year.
