The Humble ISD board of trustees at a Dec. 14 meeting swore in Marques Holmes to fill the Position 6 vacancy left by former trustee Lori Twomey.

Prior to the board’s Dec. 6 meeting, trustees interviewed 19 potential candidates before appointing Holmes to fill the position left by Twomey, who stepped down Oct. 20 to pursue new professional opportunities with her family in Oklahoma.

Holmes, who provides telecom infrastructure management consultation across south Texas and Louisiana, earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from North Carolina A&T State University and has obtained several certifications in leadership training and development.

Board President Martina Dixon welcomed Holmes after he took his place on the dais.

“Mr. Holmes, welcome to the team of eight,” she said. “We are really happy that you are joining us. ... The hard work begins now. Enjoy. We know you will be a great asset to the team.”

Holmes reflected on the opportunity he had to make a difference in the district.

“To be an advocate for tens of thousands of students is something I could do every day,” Holmes said. “This is work, but I’m absolutely going to enjoy it.”

Additionally, Holmes is a board member of the Global Outreach Community Church, a former board member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, a founding member of The John Maxwell Coaching and Training Certification and a member of Leadership Houston Class XXVIII.
