Big decisions made in 2016

• Superintendent search
  A national search for superintendent concluded after Elizabeth Fagen was selected  in July.


• Attracting, retaining teachers
  Teacher entry pay rose to $52,300 in 2016, ranking HISD fourth out of 15 area districts.


• Construction of new school
  The district broke ground on a new elementary school and a new middle school being built in Atascocita neighborhood The Groves.

Top issues for 2017

• Developing portrait of a graduate
  Local stakeholders will meet to discuss how schools can exceed academic expectations.


• Managing growth
  HISD gains about 1,000 new students a year and is one of Texas’ fastest growing districts.


• 85th Texas Legislature
  HISD will monitor the impact of decisions made in the Texas Legislature, which convenes in January and adjourns May 29.
