The fast-casual restaurant specializing in Chicago street food is expanding to Humble, restaurant officials announced in a June 18 news release.

The details

The restaurant will feature Portillo’s “Restaurant of the Future” design that includes seating for 166 guests, double drive-thru lanes, and specific accommodations for on-the-go guests that prefer carryout.

While a projected opening date has not been announced as of press time, construction is expected to wrap up by Nov. 3, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, as previously reported by Community Impact. The restaurant will be located at the northeast quadrant of Hwy. 59 and FM 1960, adjacent to Deerbrook Mall.

“We’ve loved serving our iconic, craveworthy food to the Houston community, and look forward to continuing to give our guests greater convenience with this newest location in Humble,” Portillo’s CEO Michael Osanloo said in the news release.

How we got here

Portillo’s started in 1963 as a small hot dog stand under Dick Portillo in Villa Park, Illinois, originally called “The Dog House.” Now, Portillo’s stretches across 10 states with more than 90 restaurants, offering a variety of hot dogs, Italian beef sandwiches, char-grilled burgers, desserts and salads with breakfast and side options.

Quote of note

“The city of Humble is excited to welcome Portillo’s and the classic taste of Chicago that they will bring to our community,” Humble Mayor Norman Funderburk said in the news release. “While Humble already boasts numerous excellent dining options, the addition of Portillo’s is sure to instantly be one of the new favorites for all."
