Local restaurateurs Rosa and Ronald Perez purchased J. Christopher's Pizza-Pasta on Dec. 1, after they were approached by the previous owners who were planning to close the eatery Dec. 31.

Located at 2245 Northpark Drive, J. Christopher's Pizza-Pasta has been a staple in Kingwood since originally opening in 1980. Ronald Perez said he is looking forward to breathing new life into the more than 40-year-old eatery.

"We bought this restaurant because we love Italian cuisine," he said in a Jan. 13 interview. "We have traveled extensively through Italy, and we have learned their cuisine. I wanted to bring traditional dishes to Kingwood in a simple way. That's the idea: to bring classic Italian cuisine with simplicity and passion to Kingwood."

Although the eatery is closed while undergoing renovations, J. Christopher's Pizza-Pasta is scheduled to reopen to the public in late March with a fresh look and updated menu. Ronald Perez said renovations will include an updated front-of-house area and restrooms as well as the addition of a private room where patrons can host events, a bar station equipped to serve cocktails and wine, and a television.

Ronald Perez noted additions and improvements will also be made to J. Christopher's existing menu with new dishes, such as osso buco and a truffle pizza.

"We are recovering an institution that was going to close ... and improving it by bringing life and passion to the restaurant," Ronald Perez said. "I want to keep families together and bring tradition to Kingwood."
