Although Three B’s Grill looks like a sports bar to the naked eye—it features high seats, several TVs and a prominent bar area—the Kingwood restaurant offers a family atmosphere, co-owner Craig Brown said.

Three B’s Grill, which is located on Kingwood Drive near West Lake Houston Parkway, is an American-style grill created by two longtime Kingwood residents. The restaurant was named after co-owner Robert Jones’ three sons: Ben, Brady and Brett.

“People think we’re a sports bar, and we’re not,” Brown said. “Some people in Kingwood have [the impression] that we are a sports bar, but if you ask anybody in the street and they’ll say it’s just a family grill. It has become a melting pot for [people] in Kingwood. That’s what we wanted; we’re both Kingwood guys.”

The menu is anchored by its chicken wings, burgers, steaks and chicken-fried steak tacos, a customer favorite that includes queso, gravy and taco fixings. It also features dishes new to Three B’s, such as mahi mahi, pasta and pork chops, which has become a signature dish, Brown said.

The menu changes twice per year—once to add lighter options before the summer and again with heavier entrees before the fall begins—he said.

The restaurant has 16 beers on tap, including options from local breweries, such as Back Pew Brewing, Karbach Brewing Co. and Saint Arnold Brewing Company as well as an assortment of cocktails and wines. The menu features more than 20 wine options that range from $9-$42 per bottle.

“Kingwood has a bunch of wine snobs in it, and I drink wine myself,” Brown said. “So we try to change that up with the menu, and we have a great wine [selection] that features some Texas based-wines. But we just try to please everyone. If there’s something not on there that you want on there, we’ll try to get it on there.”

Popular specialty cocktails include the BBBloody Mary and The Kingwood Tea Party, a version of a Long Island iced tea.

Brown and Jones opened Three B’s six years ago after lengthy careers in the restaurant industry. Jones, who grew up in Kingwood, wanted to open a restaurant in the community where he grew up. The duo first worked together in New Orleans in the early 1990s.

“We just wanted to create that little spot that Kingwood never had,” Brown said. “We have Mexican restaurants, Chinese [restaurants], but we [didn’t] have a little All-American grill. That’s what we do.”
