The Summit at Renaissance Park, an affordable multifamily housing development located on a portion of the parking lot of the recently closed Greenspoint Mall, is set to open at the end of this year, according to a news release from the North Houston District.

The details

The housing project, developed by Houston-based Zieben Group, will have 325 units and will set monthly rent based on income and household size, according to the release. The one- to four-bedroom units will range in size from 606-1,259 square feet and in price from $480-$1,537 per month, according to the complex’s website.

The project will also include a first-floor, 17,000-square-foot Class A retail space, which is expected to attract businesses and create jobs, according to the release.

Zieben Group officials said in the release they chose the location because they saw the need to revitalize the Greenspoint area as well as the need for affordable housing in the area.

A closer look

According to a 2021 news release from the city of Houston, Houston City Council approved $14.9 million for the housing development after the Greenspoint area “was particularly hit hard by Hurricane Harvey.”

Funded through the Hurricane Harvey Multifamily Program—a funding initiative focused on rebuilding the city’s affordable rental housing stock—Summit at Renaissance Park’s total development cost is $81 million, according to www.recovery.houstontx.gov.
