At its Oct. 25 meeting, Humble City Council discussed three potential projects the city could fund with $6.3 million in grant funding Harris County is providing the city.

The funding is part of the $1.12 billion the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development allocated Harris County to assist with recovering from Hurricane Harvey. Because the grant funding is being provided by HUD, it must be used for certain housing or community projects.

Humble City Manager Jason Stuebe said the city plans to use some of the funding to build a new fire station on South Houston Avenue to replace the existing station on Wilson Road to improve the fire department’s response times.

Additionally, the city plans to use the funding to build a new police department storage facility and a new senior activity center. Stuebe said the senior activity center would have space for emergency management storage.

Stuebe said the city will vote on a motion to submit its list of projects to Harris County at a future meeting.
