At its meeting on March 15, Humble City Council unanimously approved an ordinance canceling its May 5 election for council positions 3, 4 and 5 after incumbents holding those positions filed unopposed. Council members Allan Steagall, Norman Funderburk and David Pierce will retain their seats on the council.
The deadlines to file for the positions and to file as a write-in candidate were Feb. 16 and 20, respectively.
Elections for council positions 3, 4 and 5 were also canceled in May 2016 because the incumbents—Steagall, Funderburk and Pierce—filed unopposed.
In last year's May election, Mayor Merle Aaron Sr. and Council Member Allen Calfee ran unopposed, while incumbent Charles Curry defeated Ross Adkins to retain his seat on the council, according to Harris County data.
At its meeting, city council also approved an agreement with CenterPoint Energy to replace street lights along Townsen Boulevard West from FM 1960 to near the Costco on Townsen Boulevard West. This agreement is worth $93,146.
The council will meet for its next meeting on March 22 at 6:30 p.m. at 114 W. Higgins St., Humble. 281-446-3061.
