Pretty Little Things Pretty Little Things features an eclectic mix of apparel for women, such as jeans, tops and sandals, owner Nikole Davis said.[/caption]

Customers at Pretty Little Things like the diverse selection of clothing, fashion accessories and gifts—many of which are Houston- or Texas-themed—that are not found in department stores, owner Nikole Davis said.

Davis said she orders about six of each item, so customers know if they like a particular item, it is important to purchase it right away.

“It keeps our local customers coming back, because they don’t have to drive far and they know that everyone’s not going to be wearing what they’re wearing, even if they bought it from the same store,” Davis said.

The broad range of fashion choices at the store in Kingwood also fosters an environment that allows teachers and high school students to shop in the same store for back-to-school clothes, she said. The apparel at Pretty Little Things includes hats, tops, bralettes, jeans, shoes and sandals. The store also carries rings, bracelets, bags and gifts.

However, some of the most popular items at the store reflect a love of city, state and local sports teams. For example, Pretty Little Things carries a popular hat that is made in Kingwood and says HOU. It also sells a popular T-shirt that reads, “Texas is my happy place.”

“I’m obsessed with Houston and obsessed with Texas, and all of our sports teams,” Davis said. “So I kind of throw that into our store as much as I can.”

Davis said she has focused on using social media—she has an audience of at least 8,000 followers on Facebook—as well as special events and community happenings to generate traffic to the boutique. Pretty Little Things celebrates its five-year anniversary in August.

Davis hosts a March Madness Party, a Champagne Showers party in April to launch the new clothes for spring, and Summerfest, a party introducing customers to new arrivals on June 1. Each September, Pretty Little Things also has a Fall Party to showcase scarves, boots and jeans for the season.

Davis opened Pretty Little Things a year after she graduated from the University of Houston in 2011. She got the entrepreneurial bug from her parents, who opened a business when Davis began third grade.

The boutique allows her to fulfill her passion through work.

“I’m in my 20s, and I love shopping, so it fell into place,” she said.
