The recently rebranded Purgatory Scream Park, formerly the Kingwood Asylum, reopened for the Halloween season on Sept. 20. Although the name has changed, co-owner Shane Glasgow said guests can still expect the same realistic haunted attraction—a murder house, an asylum hospital and an outdoor clown carnival.

“I would never tell you I’m the scariest haunt in the area, because I don’t know what scares you,” he said. “I can guarantee I’m the most unique haunt in the area—hands down. … We’ve got something that’s going to get everybody’s phobia going.”

Shane said the venue originally opened as Kingwood Asylum in 2011 in a fireworks building on the same property before closing in 2013. Shane and his brother, Ryan, own the design and production company, 916 Productions, and became co-owners with the existing owner in 2014. The park remained closed for two seasons before reopening in 2016.

After the 2019 season, Purgatory Scream Park will undergo a remodel and outdoor expansion for the 2020 season, Ryan said.

“Whether you leave screaming, laughing or crying, it’s entertaining,” Ryan said.
