On Sept. 6, Fort Bend County Commissioners Court authorized an advance funding agreement between the county and TxDOT for the construction costs of Segment 2 of the Grand Parkway frontage road mobility project, meant to alleviate traffic near the major thoroughfare.
According to the agreement, Segment 2 refers to the creation of a two-lane, southbound road beginning at FM 1093 and ending at South Fry Road.
The sum of all three elements the county is responsible for totals to $8.48 million. The funding source for the work is the county's certificates of obligation fund.
Meanwhile, TxDOT will incur the other half of the construction costs, 100% of construction management costs, and all direct and indirect state costs—such as environmental assessment and remediation, right of way, utility work and preliminary engineering.
In total, TxDOT is estimated to contribute $7.62 million to the project, bringing the grand total to $16.1 million for the entire scope of work.
Community Impact Newspaper previously reported these agencies will advertise for bids in the fall for this portion of the project. Construction is expected to begin in late 2022 or early 2023.
