Rick Rice Park, a 13-acre green space with amenities that include Francesca’s Garden, the CanCare Pavilion and Veterans Memorial Plaza, has added new games to its half-mile trail, including one set of leap frog prints, two hopscotch patterns and an instructional outline for the “tree” yoga pose, officials shared in a news release on June 20. These games can be found on the trail north of the lake loop past the CanCare Overlook near a seated area for adult supervision.
Rick Ellis, president of the board of directors for Interstate MUD—the entity that built the Katy-area park in 2009 and provides water and wastewater services to the area—approved of these additions to the space located just south of I-10 at 700 Westgreen Blvd., Katy.
“We are pleased to offer these new amenities to the Katy-area community,” Ellis said in the news release, “We also look forward to sharing additional improvements to the park as we develop the 4.2 acres of land we recently acquired from CrossRoad Church.”
Rick Rice Park’s trail circles a lake and features over 500 trees, a pedestrian bridge, artwork and educational signage. Upgrades on the horizon include terraced concrete steps by the lake, renovated walking trails and a new deck overlooking a second pond with a fountain. 281-579-4500.
