Fork It, a restaurant whose interactive menu fuses comfort food favorites from all different cultures, held a soft launch on June 16 for its new storefront in Katy. The eatery, which relocated from New Jersey to its new base at 23227 Mercantile Pkwy., Katy, has an indulgent build-your-own style menu.

Starting with a “bottom” or base of the meal, customers can choose between options like mac and cheese, cilantro rice or salad. Then, select a protein or “bite” of items like lamb chops, shrimp, catfish or chicken. These can be fried, grilled, jerked or even stuffed.

The plate is adorned with “toppies” like jalapenos, onions or tomatoes and drizzled with the customer’s choice of sauce, called “squirts,” that include halal white sauce, hot sauce, or Fork It’s “blasian” sauce, which is a homemade teriyaki sauce. Customer's can finish off the customized dish with a "shake" of crafted herbs and seasonings.

Also on the menu are birria tacos and platters with the customer’s choice of protein and sides, like broccoli and asparagus, along with various combos, sides and desserts. Fork It also does surf and turf style meals, such as tacos with shrimp and beef.

For the soft opening, the eatery focused on brunch items like the cheesecake waffles and pound cake french toast. These meals could be accompanied with grits, mac and cheese, home fries or mashed potatoes, along with two eggs and bacon or sausage.
